Shohei Ohtani to make first comments since illegal gambling, theft allegations against interpreter
Shohei Ohtani, a star player for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is set to make his first public comments following the allegations of illegal gambling and theft against his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. The Los Angeles Dodgers and ESPN have reported Mizuhara’s alleged connections to illegal bookmaking, and Ohtani’s lawyers claimed he suffered a “massive theft”. The Major League Baseball and the Internal Revenue Service have launched an investigation into the issue. Mizuhara had reported gambling debts of over $1 million and at one point suggested Ohtani had paid them off, but later denied Ohtani’s involvement. Ohtani is also expected to play in upcoming exhibition games.
