Rice University has parted ways with Scott Pera, the head coach of the men’s basketball team, after seven seasons. Athletic Director Tommy McClelland stated that a change was needed for the team to become a championship-grade program. During his time as head coach, Pera held a 96-127 record and led the team to back-to-back postseason appearances in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Assistant coach Van Green will take over the program for now, as the university starts a nationwide search for their next coach. Meanwhile, the Rice Women’s basketball team has secured a spot in the NCAA tournament.
