City is richer for having the San Diego Open

Katie Boulter, the British tennis champion, recently secured her first WTA 500 title and improved her world ranking from No. 49 to No. 27, following her victory at the tournament in San Diego. Boulter emerged victorious after defeating Emma Navarro of the USA in the semi-finals and Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in the final. Despite the rain affecting the tournament, both fans and players were positive about the event, with tournament director Ryan Redondo stating that 500-level tournaments like this provide valuable experience for lower-ranking players. The San Diego Open has previously hosted top ranked players and is seen as a tune-up before the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.
