West Virginia authorities bust crime ring delivering drugs by drone into federal prison

Eleven suspects, including a juvenile, were arrested for reportedly using drones to deliver illegal drugs into a federal prison in West Virginia. The investigation started in November when officials at the Federal Correctional Institution in Welch noticed increased drone activity around the area. Arrests were made from mid-December through early February, with charges including introducing contraband into a correctional facility, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, unlawful drone operation, terroristic acts, and felony conspiracy. The suspects’ bail is set between $20,000 and $150,000. Another man, connected with the case from Louisville, Kentucky, was found dead after fleeing officers.
