Waukegan mayor blasts challenger for skipping council meeting

Waukegan’s City Council had to adjourn a recent meeting due to a lack of quorum after Alderman Keith Turner, a mayoral candidate for 2025, missed the meeting to patrol his ward against car burglars. Despite other council members’ absence, Turner’s presence was essential for the quorum. Mayor Ann Taylor criticized Turner’s decision, saying he neglected his duties and prevented the council from taking action. Despite the council’s adjournment, the Finance and Purchasing Committee had enough members present to unanimously recommend a $500,000 grant program for refurbishing commercial building facades. The grant program uses unused federal COVID-19 relief funds, and the City Council will consider the proposal at a meeting on March 4.
