Victim recounts armed carjacking that led to SAPD chase

Anthony Ross’s 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche was stolen at gunpoint and damaged in a subsequent police chase in San Antonio. The incident occurred when Ross stopped at a gas station and was approached by a man, later identified as Jonathan Casas, who initially appeared to be a panhandler. Casas was later apprehended by police after a 20-minute chase that ended with the use of a pursuit immobilization technique (PIT) and a Taser. Casas was charged with four felony charges, including aggravated robbery and unauthorized use of a vehicle. San Antonio Police statistics reveal a 53% increase in motor vehicle thefts in 2023, while the number of carjackings was actually down compared to the previous year.
