The e-commerce platform, Temu, is facing scrutiny after buying Super Bowl ad spots, with allegations of forced labor and customer spying leading to a Congressional investigation. The app, which was the most downloaded free iPhone app in the U.S last year, has also been accused of ties to China’s communist party. With over 1,700 complaints registered on the Better Business Bureau’s website, Temu is currently facing two class action lawsuits, with concerns relating to privacy breaches and compromised financial information. In response to the allegations and lawsuits, Temu has stated that the forced labor accusations are “completely ungrounded” and that users accept terms barring class action suits upon account creation.
