Superintendents from Arlington Heights-area school districts have disputed claims that their tax negotiation is preventing the Chicago Bears from relocating there. Northwest Suburban High School District 214 Superintendent Scott Rowe sees the team’s exploration of other stadiums as a “negotiation tactic” rather than a consequence of the ongoing tax dispute. The Bears, who closed their $197.2 million purchase of a 326-acre racetrack in Arlington Heights on February 15, 2023, are aiming for a tax break of about $5 million annually. However, the schools want a higher amount due to the long-term effects a property tax break would have. The parties are reportedly in agreement over funding for the potential increase in student enrollment if the Bears’ $5 billion redevelopment takes place.
