Severe thunderstorms are intensifying over West Central Alabama and southern Mississippi, with the strongest storm approaching Quitman in Clarke County, Mississippi. The storm, moving northeast at 50 miles an hour, is bringing hail nearing 1 inch in diameter. Previously, hail 3/4 of an inch in diameter was reported in Sharon and Jones counties, Mississippi. Other areas experiencing heavy storms include Laurel and Ellisville area, Bay Springs, Columbia and Marion counties, and southeastern Louisiana. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Northern Choctaw County in southwestern Alabama, with hazards including 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
