North Park Village Recycling Center Closed For Good

7

The North Park Village Recycling Station, a nonprofit recycling center in North Park, Chicago, is closing due to lack of funds. The 81-year-old owner, Ken Dunn, does not have the money to keep the center operational, and the trucks needed to haul recyclables are no longer in service. Dunn has been recognized as one of the city’s greenest residents, having managed the independently run recycling station for over 40 years and converted vacant lots into gardens and urban farms since 1968. The center is known for advocating source separation, a method of sorting reusable materials to prevent contamination and ensure they can be recycled. All other dropoff locations run by Dunn’s nonprofit, the Resource Center, are also closed.
