Nearby eateries are still struggling

The Seawolf Public House in Oakland is one of many restaurants in the Bay Area struggling to stay afloat. Monica Plazola, the owner, started a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $4,000 which, combined with other small efforts, has helped keep the business alive. The National Association of Restaurants reports that staffing shortages, decreased sales, and almost 40% of restaurants reporting unprofitability are common challenges. Pandemic-induced shifts in dining habits have favored takeout, delivery, and food trucks over dining in, leading to unpredictable foot traffic for restaurants. Some businesses have adapted by adjusting hours and menus, and partnering with delivery services or ghost kitchens, though these solutions may not suit all establishments.
