Navy lifts ban on sailors’ hands in pockets, fake eyelashes

The US Navy has lifted its ban on sailors keeping their hands in their pockets, a rule change that was largely requested by sailors themselves. The ban was previously in place as it was believed that keeping hands in pockets detracted from a sailor’s military appearance. Alongside this change, several announcements were made to accommodate the growing presence of women in the Navy. Female sailors are now allowed to wear T-shirts designed specifically for female bodies and false eyelashes or eyelash extensions, provided they appear natural and are not longer than 14 millimeters. These changes are likely to have a significant impact in San Diego, home to nearly 60,000 active-duty sailors.
