Kremlin foe Alexei Navalny’s team confirms his death and says his mother is searching for his body
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died at the age of 47 in an Arctic penal colony, leaving his mother in a journey to recover his body with no clear destination. Navalny’s spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, revealed that Lyudmila Navalnaya, Navalny’s mother, received the official note stating that Navalny had died in prison. She was later informed that her son had died from “sudden death syndrome.” Navalny’s death comes less than a month before an election that will give President Vladimir Putin another six years in power. Navalny was serving a 19-year prison term after being convicted three times for extremism.
