The article challenges the idea that more horsepower equals a better driving experience, particularly with regards to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). The author shares their own experience of driving several PHEVs, including Ford Kuga, DS 9, Mazda CX-60, and Lexus RX 450h, and not needing or using the full horsepower output in everyday driving situations. Furthermore, the author suggests that as the electric range of PHEVs increases, drivers will be spending more time in EV mode and hence need a better understanding of how their car performs with only the electric motor. The author also calls for automakers to be more transparent about the power output and performance of the electric motor in their PHEVs.
