High construction costs to delay, potentially change plans for Las Palmas Library renovation

7

The Las Palmas Library in San Antonio has been temporarily closed for renovations funded by 2017 and 2022 city bond projects. However, due to high construction costs, the project has seen several changes and delays, prolonging the library’s reopening. The project aims to improve several areas of the library, including the children’s and teen areas, meeting rooms, the technology lab, and bathrooms. The city informed community members that the bond budget would not cover the original project due to increased construction prices, leading to modifications in plans to reduce costs and find additional funds. It is anticipated that the library will reopen in early 2025.
