A “likely hobby balloon” intercepted by fighter aircraft over Utah has exited United States airspace, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The balloon, which was determined not to be a national security threat, was monitored via ground radars after being intercepted at an altitude of 43,000 to 45,000 feet. The unidentified balloon was described as 50 feet tall with a payload the size of a two-foot cube, though its contents remain unknown. This interception comes a year after a Chinese spy balloon was tracked across the U.S. before being shot down.
