Executives at Hearst Newspapers have declined to voluntarily recognize the newly formed San Antonio News Guild. This guild is a union representing journalists from the Express-News and online affiliate MySA. The union is advocating for fair compensation, stable benefits, and career development. The Guild plans to file with the National Labor Relations Board to hold an election. If successful, Express-News would be the fourth Texas newsroom to unionize this year, along with the Texas Tribune, Houston Landing, and San Antonio Report.
