Community leaders urge Greg Abbott to reverse permit for concrete crushing plant near LBJ Hospital – Houston Public Media

Community leaders, healthcare professionals and The Metropolitan Organization (TMO) are urging Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, to reverse a permit for the construction of a concrete crushing plant across the street from LBJ Hospital in Texas. The groups sent 800 letters to the governor following a press conference. Concerns have been raised about the health effects of fine particle exposure from the plant, including elevated levels of heart disease, stroke, asthma, cancer and other respiratory issues. This protest comes after Harris County recently approved over $2 billion investment for a state-of-the-art healthcare facility at the LBJ Campus. A similar situation arose last month when the expansion of the Caverdale landfill was withdrawn after public backlash.
