Chicago Blackhawks retire Chris Chelios’ No. 7 jersey


Chris Chelios, a former NHL defenseman, had his No. 7 jersey retired by the Chicago Blackhawks during a pregame ceremony. Chelios, a Chicago native, played for the Blackhawks from 1990 until he was traded to Detroit in 1999. He scored 92 goals and made 395 assists in 664 regular-season games with the Blackhawks and remains the team’s career leader with 1,495 penalty minutes. The three-time Stanley Cup champion and three-time Norris Trophy winner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013. Chelios is the ninth player to have his number retired by the franchise.
