The annual Emily Holum Memorial Blood Drive, held in memory of a six-year-old girl who fought leukemia, is helping save lives while keeping her memory alive. Emily Holum was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at age four and received multiple transfusions during her illness, before dying in 2007. Her parents organized the blood drive to help others in the same way donors helped Emily. Emily’s sister, Nicole Holum, expressed that Emily’s bravery and strength influenced her decision to pursue a nursing degree. Phillip Sanfratello, from Vitalant Blood Donation, stated that one unit of blood can potentially save three lives.
